'Road rage' is the believed cause of an accident on the Spaulding Turnpike on Sunday

ROCHESTER — State Troopers responded to a car accident on the Spaulding Turnpike on Sunday afternoon.

After an investigation, it was determined that a 1991 Saab 900SE that was being driven by Lee Norton, 62, and a truck described as a tan Chevy pickup with New Hampshire license plates that was towing a trailer with four wheelers on it were both traveling on the turnpike.

A witness said that the two were engaging in "road rage" and were antagonizing each other.

Norton lost control of his vehicle and hit the gaurdrail on the left as well as a 2015 Subaru Impreza that was driven by Jeffrey Cahill, 25. The unknown Chevy left the scene.

Cahill was not injured and Norton sustained serious head injuries and was treated at the scene before being transported to the Maine Medical Center.

All aspects of this accident, including the actions of all drivers prior to the collision, the identification of the operator and vehicle that left the scene, and causation, are currently under investigation.

This accident remains under investigation. Anyone with information pertaining to this accident is asked to contact Trooper Kopko, NH State Police-Troop A at (603) 223-8490.
