Retired Rochester K-9 passes away Christmas morning after sudden illness

Rochester police have announced that retired police dog, Fina, died early on Christmas morning.

The German Sheppard, who passed due to sudden illness, served the department for 10 years before retiring in 2013.

Fina was partnered with two officers, and received numerous awards from the Working Dog Foundation including narcotics case of the year in 2009, 2010, and 2011.

She finished 6th in national K-9 competitions in 2006, 7th in 2009, and 12th in 2012. Fina was responsible for 75 arrests after drug searches, and found numerous missing people.

Fina had been living a relaxed life with officer Keith McKenzie and his family.

She will be remembered for being "an outstanding ambassador for the department and brought countless smiles to people in the community."
