Retired Atkinson police officer, WW2 vet passes away at 89


ATKINSON — Atkinson police reported that Charles J. McCarthy, a 31-year veteran of the department, passed away Friday evening at the age of 89.

McCarthy was a World War II veteran who served in the Navy and lived in Atkinson for 61 years.

Police said that he will be sadly missed.

Calling hours will be held Tuesday, July 5 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home in Plaistow. The funeral service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday morning.

Additionally, police said that the family wants memorial donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association at 166 South River Road #210 in Bedford, NH, 03110.
