Rescue team finds NY hiker in White Mountains

Fish and Game officers as well as AMC volunteers and Androscoggin Valley Search and Rescue found a 66-year-old hiker from New York who sprained his ankle on Tuesday.

Officials received a call from an unknown hiker who found Edwin Wallace after Wallace slipped on the Osgood trail in Thompson & Meserves Purchase and hurt his ankle.

Wallace had been hiking from Franconia Notch towards Pinkham Notch on the Appalachian Trail over the past week.

The rescuers took Wallace down the Great Gulf Trail to a point where an ATV drove him out.

Though Wallace refused immediate treatment, he was given a courtesy ride to a hiker's hostel.
