Report: VA hospitals in NH manipulated appointment wait times

The Associated Press

MANCHESTER (AP) - VA Office of Inspector General reports say that VA hospitals in New Hampshire and Vermont have manipulated records to make appointment wait times appear shorter than they actually were.

The reports found that patients at Veterans Administration Medical Centers in Manchester and White River Junction, Vt were being scheduled according to appointment availability, not when the veteran wanted the appointment.

Reports say several White River Junction VA hospital employees were told that they should enter the actual appointment date as the patient's desired date if they couldn't get an appointment for a patient within 14 days.

Reports say Manchester VA employees received similar instructions.

New Hampshire Public Radio reports that White River Junction VA officials say these issues have been corrected by new safeguards and better training.
