A new report claims 1 in 5 vehicles on U.S. roadways are the subject of a repair recall.

Carfax reports there are more than 47 million cars in the U.S. with open recalls. That number is up 27 percent from last year.

The NTSB reports that in 2015, there were close to 900 repair recalls issued, involving a record 51 million vehicles. The government agency says they are working with automakers to approve the rate of repairs, launching a “Safe Cars Save Lives” campaign.
