Report of shooting in Auburn turns out to be false

AUBURN — A call to police suggesting someone had been shot multiple times at Kimballs Point on Friday was found to be false -- but not before police and an ambulance crew had mobilized at the scene.

According to the Union Leader, police arrived at the dead-end street off Manchester Road and immediately moved to secure the area while ambulances set up to treat the victim.

When police approached the house, however, they found nobody home, no victim and no sign of violence or that a gun had been fired, police Sgt. Chip Chabot said.

Chabot said the male caller who reported the incident initially said he had been shot several times, but on further questioning said he planned on shooting himself.

Chabot said he learned that a worker with a mental health agency was eventually able to connect with the caller and believed the incident was related to a mental-health issue.
