Registered sex offender sentenced for assaulting 9-year-old girl in Hinsdale while on probation
KEENE - A Walpole man pleaded guilty Friday to sexually assaulting a 9-year-old girl in her home and exposing himself to second girl at a Keene department store.
According to the Keene Sentinel, Donald Beatty, a registered sex offender, was on probation at the time of both incidents. On Friday, he was sentenced to 10 to 20 years for aggravated sex assault. He also was sentenced on several other charges, including indecent exposure and violating probation, that could add to his time in prison. He would become eligible for parole in 16 years, the Sentinel said.
Cheshire County Superior Court Judge John C. Kissinger Jr., said he accepted the prosecutor's sentence recommendation to take a dangerous predator out of society for a substantial amount of time. He refused to allow Beatty to accumulate time off his sentence by completing rehabilitation programs while in prison.
“I have no level of confidence that this man can be rehabilitated. …There is no doubt in my mind that if Mr. Beatty were released from prison today that no child [would be safe] and that many children would be in harm’s way,” he said.
Beatty is accused of exposing himself to the 8-year-old girl when she was shopping with her mother at the TJ Maxx in Keene on April 4. The child told her mother and they reported the incident to police.
Early the next morning, Beatty climbed in through the window of a 9-year-old's bedroom in Hinsdale, where he touched her inappropriately and showed her a video on his phone of an explicit sex act, saying he wanted to do that. When she refused, he shushed her but climbed back out the window before the girl's parents heard voices and went to check on her.
She would later provide a description and draw pictures of the man, which led police to Beatty.
