Redhook Brewery keg explosion wrongful death suit reaches $1.2M settlement

The Associated Press

PORTSMOUTH — The wrongful death suit filed by the family of a Newington man who died in a keg explosion at Redhook Ale Brewery has reached a $1.2 million settlement.

The Portsmouth Herald reports 26-year-old Benjamin Harris died in April 2012 while pressurizing a plastic beer keg with air at the Portsmouth brewery. The keg exploded, and first responders found Harris suffering from cardiac arrest with chest and head injuries.

Harris was rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The suit was brought against Plastic Kegs, Medway and Satellite Logistics Group - three companies involved in the manufacture and distribution of the exploded keg.

The settlement benefits Harris' sister Christina Kettering, his son born after his death and the boy's mother.

Terms of the settlement were approved July 15.
