CONCORD - In our continuing coverage of the state's heroin and opioid crisis, NH1 News is launching a series of positive stories of recovery and hope.
Stacey Hatch is a story of graduation. She began abusing painkillers after a surgery and in 2013 she 'graduated' to cocaine and heroin.
The mother of two ended up losing custody of her youngest son, after exposing him to her addiction.
"He was in car with me if I had to pick up things on the street," Hatch said. "I put him in dangerous situations, I had no business doing that."
The first step toward recovery was admitting to her doctor that she believed she had a problem. Her doctor connected her with a Suboxone clinic. In the beginning, there were relapses and Stacey found herself facing felony charges for stealing. It was then that she was accepted into the Strafford County Drug Court program.
"They showed me a different way to live, with a lot of counseling, a lot of group therapy, and being held accountable," she said.
Now, she's a graduate.
Her next goal is to reunite with her son, she understands there's trust that must be regained.
"To get some sore of communication with him. That's all I really want today."
She also wants to give back, to the community that helped her toward sobriety.
Her message to those who are struggling to get or to want help:
"I just want to let people know that there are so many different avenues out there for you. Just be vulnerable, for even one minute and ask for help, pick the phone up. They really do want to help us."
In her journal she keeps a favorite quote:
"When the past calls, let it go to voicemail, it has nothing new to say."
