RECALL: Organic turmeric ginger green tea could be contaminated with salmonella

RECALL — Attention tea drinkers! Republic of Tea, Co. has voluntarily recalled its organic turmeric ginger green tea due to possible salmonella contamination.

The company was notified by one of its suppliers about the possibility of salmonella bacteria in one lot of its organic ginger ingredient used in the tea.

According to the Food and Drug Administration, salmonella infections can cause diarrhea, vomiting, abdominal pain and fever and can be potentially deadly in young children, in people who are older, are frail or who have underlying health conditions that weaken their immune systems. Currently, there have been no reports of anyone sick after drinking the teat so far.

The recall only applies to the specified flavor where the rest of the company's flavors do not fall under the recall.

Here are the recalled 50-count tins, in 250-count bulk bags or 50-count refill bags with their corresponding UPC codes and "best sipped" by dates that you should look out for:

- Organic Turmeric Ginger – 50 CT Refill Bag

.UPC: 7-42676-42155-9 – Best Sipped by March 23, 2018

Recalled products may be returned to the Republic of Tea for replacement tea or for a refund.
