Realistic $100 bills getting passed in Keene, police say man changed 2 $20 bills
KEENE - Police are looking for a man who passed two $20 bills reprinted to look like $100 bills.
The first counterfeit $100 bill fooled a Circle K clerk who took it from a customer paying for a $5.99 case of water on May 2. The clerk used the money marker on the bill and it turned the appropriate color. The investigating officer noted the paper bill itself is real, but it appeared a $20 bill had been printed over to display as a $100 bill. The strip within the bill read "USA TWENTY." While the bill had Ben Franklin's face, the watermark president on the right side was Andrew Jackson who is depicted on the $20.
That same day, another one of these bills was passed at CVS for another case of water. Surveillance video shows it is the same man at both stores with the fake $100, police said. He is described as an adult white male, wearing dark-framed glasses and has a shaved head.
The case remains under investigation. Anyone who has further information is encouraged to call the Keene Police Department at (603) 357-9820, ask to speak to Officer Donald Lundin.
