Range Rover driver crashes car on I-93; arrested for DWI


LONDONDERRY - State police report they arrested a man after a single car crash on Interstate 93 North bound in Londonderry.

State troopers were called just before noon on Wednesday with reports of an erratic driver. Before the police arrived, the vehicle - a 2003 Land Rover - crashed into the guardrail just north of Exit 5.

When troopers arrived they found the operator of the vehicle running southbound on the highway.

After giving a false name, the man was identified as 37 year-old John Banfield of Nashua. He was treated at Elliot Hospital before he was transferred to Rockingham County Department of Corrections. He is facing several charges including driving while intoxicated - drugs, disobeying a police officer, operating after suspension, possession of a controlled drug and two felony warrants.

Banfield refused bail and is scheduled to appear at the Derry District Courthouse today.
