Rally planned against Manchester's new encrypted police radio transmissions

MANCHESTER — People are expected to rally against the Manchester encrypted police radio transmissions on Tuesday.

READ: Manchester Police Department will keep radio transmissions encrypted

Police moved to encrypt their radio broadcasts on Sept. 9 when they switched over to the city's new $5.8 million emergency radio system. This led to criticism from the media and scanner listeners following the move.

The rally is scheduled to take place at City Hall on Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. and is being organized by Carla Gericke - a Free State Project leader and state Senate candidate.

Gericke is arguing that the public has the right to know what the police department is doing, according to the Union Leader.
