'Raise the Woof' comedy event raises money for animals in need

MANCHESTER - A Chichester animal rescue team decided to take matters into their own hands Saturday night and raise money with a comedy show. Live and Let Live Farm's "Raise the Woof" event gave animal lovers from across the state a good laugh but more importantly, an opportunity to save a life.

Rescuing abused and unwanted animals, Live and Let Live Farm has been overwhelmed and extra busy taking in animals from across the country. Caring for them for as long as it takes until they find a forever home.

"The thing is, we didn't look for it, it all just came together," Teresa Paradis, the executive director of the farm, said. "We've had some really heavy expenses, our medical fund is pretty drained. We got like $800 in our medical account."

That's when Teresa and the rest of the farm's volunteers began to think of ideas to raise money. However, two comedians reached out first and offered to help.

"We're a stand up comedy tour and work with animal rescues across Canada and the USA," comedian James Uloth said. "I love being able to help with what I do and what I love. You know, it's great to use stand-up comedy to help something that you love as well."

More than 200 animal lovers from across the region made their reservations for a Saturday night filled with laughter and plenty of raffles. But most importantly, to support a cause they all truly believe in.

"I believe that instead of the government supporting things, people should come out and contribute and support whatever your beliefs are. And animals is certainly one of mine," Martha Tomanelli said.

"Make people aware that the farm is there and that they need help and the animals need their voice," Cindy Morse, a volunteer at the farm said.
