Public forum on Uber held in Portsmouth
PORTSMOUTH - The Taxi Commission in Portsmouth has been discussing Uber since it started operating a few months ago. Taxi drivers, and the sole Uber driver have had their chance to speak to the commission, but Wednesday's public forum is the first real opportunity for residents to speak.
Last month, the Taxi Commission presented some their research on Uber and how it's been received in other cities.
Many taxi companies in the city don't want to see Uber in Portsmouth, they say uber is unfair competition and doesn't have to follow the same regulations as them.
The Uber driver has also attended the meetings and has gotten the OK from Portsmouth Police to continue operating.
There are a lot of questions about if or how the city could regulated Uber.
The public forum begins at 7pm at Portsmouth City Hall. Stay tuned to NH1 News and NH1.com for the latest.
