Problem with slope forces closure of North Country road

The Associated Press

LANCASTER — Transportation officials say emergency repairs to fix a problem with the slope alongside Route 135 in Lancaster will close the road for two months.

The New Hampshire Department of Transportation says the project will begin Sept. 17 and is expected to be completed Nov. 13. The road will be closed just north of the Dalton town line and drivers will be detoured to Route 3.

The repair comes after a slope failed along the roadside next to the Connecticut River. It will involve road reconstruction, installing a retaining wall along the river, replacing twin drainage pipes with a concrete box culvert, and the placement of stone on both sides of the road.

The project is expected to cost $845,000.
