Prison escapee David Sweat shot, taken into police custody alive

MALONE, NY – Escaped murderer David Sweat has been captured.

Sweat was walking along a road and was shot twice by a New York state trooper Sunday afternoon.

Sweat has been transported to the Alice Hyde Medical Center in Malone and the extent of his injuries are not immediately known.

Sweat was captured almost exactly 48 hours after his co-escapee, Richard Matt, was shot three times and killed by officers on Friday.

The capture of David Sweat ends a three-week long search that covered hundreds of miles with thousands of law enforcement officers.
