PORTSMOUTH - A consultant hired to draft a grand plan for Prescott Park said summer operations are "beyond the capacity of the park."

According to Seacoastonline, this assessment is based on the problem of the park getting used and worn faster than it can be maintained according to Cheri Ruane, the vice president of Landscape Architecture.

Ruane described to the paper that the central region of the park where the Prescott Park Arts festival holds plays and concerts as the "heart of the park."

However, the constant heavy traffic presents challenges. “But what it’s perpetuating is this intensity of use in one zone that is starting to impact experiences.”

The community has been concerned about drug and alcohol use during the events as well.
