Prescott Park Arts Festival hires police detail to curb 'excessive drinking'

PORTSMOUTH — If you plan on heading off to the Prescott Park Arts Festival, expect a larger police presence than in the past.

Organizers have agreed to hire a police detail for each concert in an effort to curb “excessive” drinking.

There is a city ordinance banning alcoholic consumption in public parks, but it appears to be a rule that often gets ignored. Violators could be fined $50.

Police said they will be discreet during the events.
