Pregnant woman collides with pregnant moose near Waterville Valley

WATERVILLE VALLEY - Police are warning drivers to be careful of moose after a collision Friday night on Route 49 that involved a pregnant woman and a pregnant moose.

Police Capt. John Katsirebas says the human mother was about five months pregnant and was not seriously injured when her Subaru Legacy hit the moose around 9 p.m. The moose was not as lucky. Katsirebas said meat from the moose will be distributed to needy families.

As the weather improves and humans and moose are increasingly on the move, drivers in and around the White Mountains are encouraged to be careful particularly around dawn and dusk. "We warn the community every year at about this time," Katsirebas said.
