Precious gift returned to Epping woman after Grinch has regrets
EPPING - Here's a story about a Grinch whose heart was made to grow a little larger after news coverage made public the anguish and disappointment of a woman who lost a precious gift when a thief took a package from her mailbox.
Jude David reports that her dad's shirt, which was made into a special pillow after he passed away, was returned.
"You're not going to believe this but this morning my neighbor called me and told me that my dad's shirt and a gun holster were placed under my mailbox. The thieves had a heart and returned the items. I am shocked but what a great ending. Without your coverage, I don't think this would've ever been returned. Thank you so much and Merry Christmas to you!" David wrote to NH1's Colleen Shaughnessy who reported on the theft.
David and her family were still grieving the loss of her father Jerry, who died suddenly in August after a cancer diagnosis, when David made special arrangements to create the pillow for her mother.
For Christmas, she mailed one of her dad's flannel shirts to a seamstress in Texas to be made into a pillowcase. The item was to be a gift for her mother, and read 'This is a shirt I used to wear whenever you hold it know that I am there, Love Jerry.'
The family later found the envelope tossed aside but the pillow was missing. A second item - an antique gun holster - also was stolen at the same time.
