Post-rain flood damages areas in Concord, puts elevator out of order

CONCORD — Heavy rain overnight from Sunday to Monday soaked the only elevator in the Capital Commons parking garage.

The lift, located inside the Storrs Street structure, is currently out of order after rain water reached the electronics behind the control panel buttons and fried everything.

Superintendent of Public Properties Jay Burgess said that "until everything dries out, we won't know what the damage is."

He added that, if the elevator was a cell phone, he would put it in a bag of rice to accelerate the drying process, according to the Concord Monitor.

But "we can't put an elevator in a big bag of rice," Burgess said.

Drains in a city parking lot near the Concord City Auditorium were also impacted by the rain.

In total, Concord received between two and three inches of rainfall during the past week.
