Possible fee increase to speak where Lincoln spoke in Exeter
EXETER - Politicians who want to speak in the historic hall where Abraham Lincoln once spoke may need to pay a steeper price for the opportunity.
Selectman are deliberating over a proposal to increase town hall rental fees from a maximum of $250 to $1,500, according to the Union Leader.
There is debate over whether the fee increase merely covers administrative costs or would stifle freedom of speech.
While some support the increase in fees, others point out that not everyone who rents the town hall does so for political reasons.
The selectman will continue debating the proposal for now.
