Possible arson investigation underway in Dover

DOVER - Firefighters and police in Dover are investigating a possible case of arson after a 2-alarm fire ripped through vacant building over the weekend.

The fire broke out around 5 a.m. Sunday on Portland Avenue. When crews arrived they were met with heavy fire on the second floor. The building was vacant and due to be torn down.
The fire chief Richard Driscoll says they've ruled out any accidental or natural causes.

"It wasn't a heavy response but it's in a very congested neighborhood area so we wanted to make sure we had enough personnel if it really took off, then we could control it and take care of the buildings that are in the area that are occupied," Driscoll said.

No one was injured, the building is expected to be demolished sometime this week.
