Portsmouth police arrest NYC man, seize $16K worth of cocaine

PORTSMOUTH - Police seized $16,000 worth of cocaine, cash and other items after they arrested a man from the Bronx in New York City who was staying at a local hotel.

Police charged Everton Sterling, 31, with sale of cocaine, possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, and two counts of marijuana possession. Police say the arrest followed an investigation involving the High Intensity Drug Interdiction Team along with detectives and officers from Somersworth and the federal Drug Enforcement Administration. Police also used two police K-9s, Max and Steele.

Police made the arrest as Sterling was leaving the hotel room on Friday and took him into custody without incident. A subsequent search of the the suspect and his hotel room led to the seizure of the cocaine and marijuana.

Sterling was held at the Rockingham County jail. He is scheduled to be arraigned by video on Monday in Portsmouth District Court.
