Portsmouth police announce sobriety checkpoint for this week

NH1 News

PORTSMOUTH — A sobriety checkpoint has been announced for the week of July 10 in an effort to apprehend drunk drivers.

Chief David Mara of the Portsmouth Police Department said the checkpoint has been authorized by the Rockingham County Superior Court.

Checkpoints like this have been used in the past in Portsmouth and elsewhere, proving successful in the apprehension of drunk drivers, police said.

The NH branch of Mothers Against Drunk Driving (M.A.D.D.) supports the checkpoint, as well as the New Hampshire Supreme Court.
