Portsmouth K-9 retires to live with his partner

NH1.com

PORTSMOUTH – K-9 Steel will be retiring from the force and spending his glory years with his handler and partner Officer Scott Pearl.

Seacoastonline.com reported Pearl and Steel were to be honored Tuesday night for their teamwork and pending retirements from police canine work.

Pearl will remain a member of the police department, but no longer as a dog handler. Steel will live with Pearl, Seacoastonline.com reported.

A German shepherd, Steel was purchased in April 2014 with a donation from Novel Iron Works. Steel's retirement from police work leaves the department with just one K-9 team, Officer Steve Blanding and K-9 Max. Officer Eric Kinsman's German shepherd Titan retired in 2014 and died last month.

Interim Police Chief David Mara told Seacoastonline.com he expects the Police Department will add another K-9 team.
