Portsmouth community members can now voice opinions on home demolitions
PORTSMOUTH — Community members are now able to to give their opinion when a property owner wants to demolish a home in the city.
The City Council unanimously voted to pass an amended demolition ordinance, which allows for a public hearing to be held when a building is more than 50 years old.
The issue of homes being demolished first arose in February after some neighbors of a 140 Thornton Street home objected to the Board of Adjustment's granting two variances to the owners concerning frontage and lot coverage.
