Popular Sanborn Regional High teacher returning this fall after students advocated for him

KINGSTON - A Sanborn Regional High School teacher who lost his job because of budget cuts will be returning to the classroom this fall.

Students were upset last spring when they learned budget cuts meant English teacher Michael Corkery would not be back, and they started a campaign and distributed fliers asking for his reinstatement.

"Kids deserve to have a teacher like that," said one student.

The past few months were hard on Corkery. "Maybe the worst feeling is looking at the person who's telling you that you don't necessarily have a job next year and knowing that it's not their fault," he said.

But the student campaign and fliers were heartwarming. Now, thanks to some other personnel changes at the school, Corkery has been asked back.
