Popular hiking area in Keene hit with brush fire
KEENE - A brush fire at a popular hiking spot at Goose Pond on Saturday drew firefighters from several area towns as well as Vermont.
Keene Fire Capt. Michael A. Burke told the Keene Sentinel that the blaze covered about 2.7 acres. The fire moved up from the pond into the woods, he said. The command post for the blaze was set up at the dam, he said.
About 60 to 70 firefighters responded to the scene, he said. The fire was reported at about 3 p.m. and was under control before dark.
No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire is under investigation, Burke said.
