Police: Woman who crashed into bus carrying 11 NH elementary schoolers was on drugs at time

DURHAM - Ashley Compagna, the driver of a car that collided with a school bus carrying elementary students, has been charged with driving under the influence of drugs.

Compagna, 31 of Exeter, turned herself into authorities Wednesday after toxicology tests showed she was under the influence of a controlled drug - it is unclear which drug.

The accident, which occurred in late May, left Compagna trapped in her car before she was transported to Portsmouth Regional Hospital and treated for serious injuries.

The school bus was on its way to Mast Way Elementary School in Lee with 11 children on board, two suffered minor injuries.
