Police: Woman driving under minimum speed limit while drunk, causes lane closures
KITTERY, Me. — A woman was arrested Tuesday after allegedly driving under the influence and under the minimum speed limit, causing lanes on Interstate 95 to be temporarily shut down.
Police reported that around 12:30 p.m., a woman was allegedly driving dangerously as she left Eliot, Maine. Police responded to the report and attempted to pull the woman over, however she did not comply and drove onto Interstate 95.
Police reported that the woman continued to flee, however she was driving under the legal minimum speed of 45 mph. Police pursued her for approximately five minutes before making slight contact with the car in order to stop it.
Arrested and charged was Tabitha Grassi, 32 of Eliot, Maine, for driving under the influence, eluding an officer and for reckless conduct.
The pursuit backed up traffic for approximately 20 minutes on Interstate 95, according to police. Officers were required to temporarily shut down all lanes on the southbound side between the Kittery and Eliot exits and the Piscataqua Bridge before arresting Grassi.
