Police warn of paving scam after woman is robbed in Chichester

CHICHESTER — A woman told police that two men pretending to work for a reputable local paving company asked to use her bathroom and then stole her jewelry.

Police said a woman on Horse Corner Road called police Thursday. She reported that two men claimed to work for Young's Paving and offered to seal coat her driveway. While one of the men spoke with her outside, the other asked to use the bathroom. The homeowner agreed and a few minutes later the men said they'd be back that afternoon to do the job. That's when she noticed her jewelry was missing.

The owner of Young's Paving told NH1 News he's frustrated someone is trying to tarnish his family's business. William Young said his employees won't go inside a home, they drive vehicles that are clearly marked and their shirts have the Young logo on them. He also said a driver's license should be able to prove whether a salesman is connected with the business.

"It's a family owned business so all salesmen that deal with customers are Young's," Young said.

Young said he will work with police and offer a cash reward for a tip that leads to an arrest.

The woman said the men were in a beige SUV or van that had the words 'seal coating' on the back window. One of the men was described as having short black hair and tattoos on both arms.

Anyone with information is asked to call Chichester police at 603-225-5006.
