Police: Sudden death of 28-year-old Dover man appears to be a drug overdose

DOVER — Dover Police are investigating the death of a 28-year-old that they suspect was a drug overdose.

Rescue teams were called Wednesday to a home on Ham Street which belonged to 28-year-old Matthew Irvine. Irvine was found unresponsive and transported to Wentworth-Douglas Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police say they are still waiting for a determination on Irvine's cause of death by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, but it appears to be a drug overdose at this time.

If it was an overdose, this will be the fourth in Dover for 2016, all of which are suspected to be heroin and/or fentanyl overdoses. The Dover Police Department has responded to 16 non-fatal drug overdoses in 2016 as well.

Anyone with information on Irvine's death is asked to call the Dover Police Department at (603)-742-4646, as the incident remains under investigation.
