Police search for 2nd NH inmate reported missing in 24 hours

STEWARTSTOWN — Police are searching for an inmate who went missing from the Coos County Jail.

Brendan Bernier was last seen near the recycling center in Stewartstown Wednesday at about 8:30 a.m.

The New Hampshire State Police Troopers, State Police K-9 unit, United States Border Patrol, and the Colebrook Police Department are checking the immediate area.

Bernier has ties to the Berlin, Gorham and Bethlehem areas in New Hampshire and may have contacts in St. Johnsbury, Vt., state police said.

He had been serving a sentence related to driving a motor vehicle after being deemed a habitual offender. He has burn scars on his forehead and left side of his face, state police said.

Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to contact the NH State Police Troop F at 603-846-3333.

Police are also searching for another inmate with walkaway status from the Calumet Transitional Housing Unit in Manchester.

William Clayton Roy, 68 of Claremont, went missing Wednesday after signing out of the facility for a private appointment at 1:18 p.m. Roy was placed on walkaway status after he failed to return at 3:30 p.m. as scheduled.

The inmate is described as a white male, 5-foot-8-inches tall, 185 pounds, with brown eyes and brown hair. He also walks with a cane, NH Department of Corrections said.

He was sentenced in Grafton County Superior Court to two sentences of two-and-a-half to six years for forgery with 249 days of time served credited to his sentence.
