NASHUA- Police arrested a Nashua woman Wednesday after a months-long investigation into the theft from a safe in a local department store.

Police became involved in January when officers responded to J C Penney at the Pheasant Lane Mall for a reported internal theft.

J C Penney Asset Protection identified Cassundra Cook, 29, of Nashua as the suspect. Authorities say Cook had access to the store’s safe on numerous occasions and took cash.

The Criminal Investigations Division of NPD furthered the investigation and completed an arrest warrant charging Cook.

Officers arrested Cook about 5:30 for one class A felony count of theft by unauthorized taking or transfer/consolidation.

A class A felony is punishable by up to 15 years imprisonment, exclusive of fines. Cook was released on $240 cash bail and is scheduled to be arraigned at the Nashua District Court on June 10.
