Police say NH man dragged, punched woman before leaving her unconscious in roadway

LEBANON — Police arrested a man after witnesses said they saw him drag a woman out of his vehicle, punch her and leave her in the roadway.

According to police, a woman was found lying in the middle Mechanic Street around 1:10 a.m. Sunday.

The 26-year-old female was unconscious and bleeding from the face when police arrived.

Several witnesses told police that a man dragged the woman body out of the vehicle and struck her in the face, knocking her unconscious, before taking off in a black Saab.

Police say the Saab was located on Mechanic Street, heading back to where the woman was found. When officers attempted to stop the suspect, later identified as 27-year-old Eric Briggs, of Lebanon, he allegedly refused to pull over until he reached the scene of the crime. After a brief struggle, police said they were able to take Briggs into custody.

Briggs has been charged with second-degree assault and possession of the controlled drug Suboxone, driving while intoxicated, resisting arrest/detention and reckless conduct.

Briggs was transported to the Grafton County House of Corrections and was scheduled to be arraigned Monday.

Officials said the woman was treated at a local hospital for a broken nose and lacerations to the face.
