MERRIMACK - A Connecticut man allegedly attacked and threatened to take the life of a 16-year-old girl who was exiting a bathroom at Merrimack Premium Outlets on Wednesday afternoon.
Desmond Ashaad Mighty, of Windsor, Conn., is facing multiple felony and misdemeanor charges after police say he followed the teen out of the women's bathroom by the food court and grabbed her by the neck, threw her to the ground and pinned her down.
He asked her "Do you want to die?" and told her to be quiet, according to police Lt. Denise Roy.
"She did the right thing," Roy said. "She did what her parents always instructed her to do - and screamed.”
A passerby heard the screams and came to help the teen, identified in court documents only as "M.H.".
Mighty took off and was later caught in the parking lot with two loaded guns and drugs in his vehicle.
After hearing of the attack, which authorities say was random, shoppers said they were concerned for their safety.
“It’s kind of upsetting that there’s not more security around to just keep an eye out because you never know what could happen," said Nathalie Beaudoin, who told NH1 News that she is a frequent shopper at the outlets. "And the fact that that did happen is kind of bothersome.”
Others said it's frightening to think it could've happened to them.
"It’s very scary to hear that," said Nelly Ciraso. "I think now they should put security outside the bathroom, or do something.”
Mighty was arraigned on 11 charges on Thursday morning. He was held on $100,000 cash only bail after asking the judge to "have mercy" because he wanted to care of a family member in Connecticut.
