Police: Salem woman stabbed officer with screwdriver who kept her from stabbing own neck

SALEM — A woman is facing assault and other charges after police said she stabbed an officer in the hand with a screwdriver who was trying keep her from stabbing herself in the neck.

Police arrived at the home of Stephanie Lowden, 43, to serve an arrest warrant. When they arrived Lowden walked into another area of the home with her daughter who was trying to take a screwdriver out of her mother's hands.

When her daughter let go, police blocked the screwdriver to keep Lowden from lodging the tool into her own neck.

Lowden was arrested and charged with simple assault, resisting arrest, and education neglect of a minor and was held on $5,000 cash bail.
