Police: Salem man threatened to shoot Liberty Utility employees, tried to elbow officer

A Salem man is accused of going to the Liberty Utilities offices, threatening to shoot its employees, and trying to elbow a police officer in the head.

Employees at the office said Eric Wermers, 59 of Salem, tried to get in the locked building before making the threats. When the Salem police arrived, they said he was already gone but they had enough information to identify him.

When the police showed up at Wermers's business, they said he tried to elbow an officer in the face and head.

He was arrested and charged with three counts of criminal threatening with deadly weapon, simple assault, and resisting arrest or detention.

Wermers refused bail and was scheduled for arraignment on Wednesday.
