Police stated in a press release that the rifle was returned by a "good Samaritan" early Wednesday afternoon.

The rifle went missing around 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday after the officer failed to properly store the weapon in his cruiser's trunk. He did not notice that rifle had gone missing until his shift ended at around 11:45 p.m. that night.
