Police proactive ahead of Halloween festivities at UNH in Durham

DURHAM - Friday was Halloween night - and police took it serious at the University of New Hampshire in Durham.

"Friday and Halloween is a very interesting combination for a college community," said UNH Police Chief Paul Dean. "After the things in Keene, certainly we reflect on those and we want to make sure those things aren't happening here."

Authorities cracked down early on, as they started making various arrests and pulling many over as they enforced speed limits.

Most students said they didn't mind the extra police presence - and that they weren't expecting things to get out of hand.

Police said dispersing growing crowds was a priority to avoid any major riots.
