Police: Northfield man led officers on car chase, found with meth and other drugs

NORTHFIELD - A Northfield man is facing multiple charges for leading police on a brief pursuit after they tried questioning him about numerous gunshots in the area of Granite and Elm streets, police said.

Police were trying to question James E. Zanni Jr., 20, at about 2:30 p.m. near his Elm Street home when he allegedly took off in his car. Police pursued Zanni's car through the Union Sanborn Elementary school area and back to Zanni's residence where he was arrested, they said.

Officers said they found Zanni in possession of methamphetamine and Suboxone and that the methamphetamine appeared to be packaged to be sold.

Zanni was charged with disobedience, resisting arrest, reckless conduction, three drug possession charges, transporting drugs, and three stop sign violations.

Zanni was held at Merrimack County Jail overnight for a probation violation and was expected to be arraigned Friday.
