Police: NH driver rear-ends car on Route 12, passenger required airlift to hospital
CHARLESTOWN — New Hamphsire State Police responded to a two-car crash on Route 12 in Charlestown on Saturday afternoon.
Around 2 p.m. July 2, a van driven by Nellie Ellen Stark, 66, of Charlestown, was heading northbound on Route 12 when she rear-ended a Chevrolet Aveo operated by Colt Carter, 33 of Norwich, Vt., police said.
Carter had been briefly stopped in the lane waiting for opposite traffic to clear to take a turn onto Ox Brook Road.
Stark's van slid off the roadway onto the grassy shoulder, and Carter's vehicle stopped in the middle of the road.
Both drivers had minor injuries from the crash, but a passenger in Carter's Aveo, identified as Carrie Carter, 32, of Norwich, had to be manually extracted from the car by Charlestown Fire members. Carter was airlifted to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Hanover and remains in serious condition but she is stable.
Police are investigating the cause of the crash and anyone with information was asked to call Trooper Matthew Merrill at (603) 358-3333.
