Police: Nashua couple arrested after traffic stop for being in contact with each other

MERRIMACK - A couple was arrested for being in contact with each other after a woman's bail order forbade it and the man violated a protective order, police said.

Police stopped a car along the Daniel Webster Highway on Saturday and identified the man and the woman inside as 47-year-old Paul Murtagh, and 44-year-old Julie Cook-Murtagh both of Nashua.

After records were checked, police noticed that Cook-Murtagh had a criminal bail order that restricted her from having contact with Murtagh.

Police also discovered that Murtagh had a protection order out against him, and that he was also to have no contact with Cook-Murtagh.

Cook-Murtagh was then arrested for stalking and Murtagh was arrested for violation of a domestic violence petition.

Cook-Murtagh was released on $2,500 personal recognizance bail and is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday, while Murtagh is being held without bail and was scheduled for court on Monday.
