Police: Merrimack man wearing Hillary Clinton mask assaults another man while protesting
MERRIMACK — A Merrimack man wearing a Hillary Clinton mask allegedly assaulted another man while protesting at the Route 101A intersection.
The victim called 911 Wednesday at about 5:37 p.m. reporting that a man wearing a red jump suit and a Hillary Clinton mask had assaulted him. When officers arrived, the person with the Hillary Clinton mask had already left the scene, police said.
The victim stated he was stopped at the intersection to enter Route 101A when he noticed a person wearing a Clinton mask protesting loudly. He allegedly told this man to get a job. The man in the mask then approached the victim's car and after some words were exchanged, grabbed onto his arm in an attempt to pull him out of the vehicle, police said.
Merrimack Police had received a complaint earlier in the afternoon about a person yelling at cars in the same intersection wearing a Hillary Clinton mask with a red jump suit.
Police responded and watched the subject for a while, and reportedly saw nothing disorderly. The officer did approach the subject wearing the mask, and he was identified as Nicholas Bonzagni, 28.
As a result of the investigation, an arrest warrant was obtained for Bonzagni for the charge of simple assault. Bonzagni later turned himself into police, where he was processed on the charge and later released on personal recognizance bail.
No injuries were reported.
