Police: Mattress fell off SUV, hit motorcyclist before causing crash on NH roadway

CANDIA — New Hampshire State Police responded to an accident on Route 101 after a mattress struck a motorcycle near Exit 3 westbound.

According to the police investigation, a 2011 Chevy Traverse, operated by Karen Paulson, 60, of Merrimack, was driving west on 101 with a mattress attached to the roof. Police said the mattress fell off Paulson's SUV and hit a motorcycle driven by Lorena Case, 55, of Bow.

Police said the crash with the mattress caused Case to lose control of the motorcycle and crash. Case had non-life-threatening injuries and was treated at Eliot Hospital.

Police said the accident remains under investigation, but the initial cause was believed to be the poorly secured load on Paulson's vehicle.

Anyone with information is asked to call Trooper Christopher Houston at (603)223-8490.
