Police: Mason man turns himself in after shooting neighbor's dog

NH1.com

MASON— A man has been arrested after shooting his neighbor's dog in the back.

On Oct. 15, police responded to a residence after the report of a shot canine. The homeowner told authorities she heard a single gun shot, and seconds later her dog, Travis, came to her with a wound.

The bullet wound was "through and through", entering one side of Travis's back and exiting the other, luckily not striking any vital organs.

The homeowner believes that Travis was on her own property when he was shot, citing that her property is fenced in and that Travis responded back to her within seconds.

The man who shot the dog, Colton Skorupan, 39, turned himself in Saturday. He stated he was on his own property with his 6-year-old son when the dog started to run towards him, barking.

Skorupan stated he was concerned for his safety and his son's, causing him to draw his pistol and fire at Travis.

The area of the shooting is rural. There is an estimated 500 feet between where the homeowner and Skorupan say the shooting occurred.

Skorupan was arrested and charged with cruelty to animals, a class B felony. He was released on personal recognizance bail and will appear in court Jan. 23 to answer his charge.
