Police: Manchester man stole car left with keys in ignition, found with bag of heroin

MANCHESTER - A local man was charged with stealing a car after police say he took a Volvo with the keys left in the ignition outside the 21 Main Street Gulf Express early this morning.

The car owner, Sheila Stone, told police she'd left the car unattended to run into the store and found it missing when she came out.

Police located the 1995 Volvo about an hour later and found Randy Katanga, 22, of 33 Whig Drive, behind the wheel.

Police say they also found a baggie containing heroin inside the car and found that Katanga was already wanted on a parole warrant.

He was charged with theft of a motor vehicle and possession of heroin in addition to the parole warrant.

He was scheduled to appear in the 9th Circuit Court-Manchester later on Thursday.
